Today I didn’t do a whole lot. My Daughter and I went to our local Electrical Co-Op annual meeting and voted for our representatives. Filled out some raffle tickets while we were there, then pretty much high tailed it to my Bride’s place of work to visit with her and see if she wanted anything from Walmart.
We were in need of a new shovel for the garden as I’d already retired two in the last two weeks. Both were very old and lasted well beyond what could have been expected. They were both my Grandfather’s, and I’m of serious doubt that we’d find any today that would last half as long. Sad the way of ‘us’. Both broke while working in the garden and are now permanent fixtures of the flower beds they were being used in. Why not!? lol
I got a little side tracked on the way to Walmart though. I just had to drive through the back lot of my favorite car dealership (it’s not a car dealership, they just end up with a few here and there from people who don’t pay their bills). They keep the cars hid out back in a privacy fenced lot. What would I just have to see? An 88 Volvo 744! (for those who don’t know, I have more Volvos than most people would see in a single day and I do NOT need them, it’s an addiction. I just love working on them and bringing a worn and abused car back to it's former lack of glory, then actually adding a little glory and luster).
It was in pretty poor shape, the passenger side front door panel had been ripped off and thrown into the trunk. Several wires got broke inside the door as a result. The glove box is practically ripped out. The steering column is beaten and the ignition switch and lock assembly have been destroyed. The left headlight assembly is bent as is a small portion of the hood and fender. The fender has had one heck of a bad, hasty repair job done on it. The seats are not great by any means, but the leather’s in much better shape than could be expected for it’s age and abuse. OK, you get the idea, it’s another dang Volvo and it’s not in good shape. You’d think a sane man could pass this one up wouldn’t ya? Thing is, I’ve yet to be accused of being sane. In my defense, I offered $100.00 for a running , drivable car with just about every option you could get (all of which still work) and they accepted. Alas, I own yet another Volvo.
(to top it all off, I’m trying to obtain two more. One will have to be purchased and the other will be traded for)
We finally made it to Walmart. I had to get the shovel and there’s a few things I wanted to get Kay for the garden. While I’m out of town she has to hold down the fort and care for the garden pretty much by herself. Lugging five gallon buckets of liquid fertilizer to each plant had become tedious a LONG time ago. I wanted to make life a little easier on her, so I got her two of those spray deals that you just use on the end of the hose. One is for the flowers and the other is for the fruits and veggies. Got her some quick connects for each, and some more for all of the attachments she’s already using, so she won’t have to keep wracking her wrists tightening and loosening attachments. Our Daughter bought her a beautiful wind chime for the garden as well.
Left Walmart and headed back to Kay’s job to pick her up (had her leave her car at work while we roamed around) and go grab a bite to eat at McDonalds. Kay was having one of her seldom occurring Big Mac attacks. Sat in there and yakked for quite a while after we ate.
Then it was time to head back to Walmart. We all needed hair cuts and figured we’d try the hair care center there. They did a good job on all three of us, but man we were in there for ages! (yes, you are correct, men can NOT take sitting around in such a place for very long). After the hair cuts we shopped for flowers again. This time we purchased eight or nine rose bushes of various varieties. We bought a few “odds and ends” plants for those “here and there” places and a ‘blue million’ more seeds. Picked out a few more gardening utensils and gathered a few more ideas for the garden.
Took Kay back to her car. She took our Daughter and headed off to the video store. I headed off to the campground to attend to some business matters and pick our dog Lilly Belle up, then headed home.
Spent the rest of the day watching “Shark Tale” and “The Day After Tomorrow” both turned out to be great movies.
Christina headed off to bed. Kay planned out a few things for tomorrow and headed off to bed. I’m here typing this gibberish up.
To sum up:
I got up this morning and headed into what became a great day. I didn’t get squat done, but I got to spend time with my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
