Well, I got a late start on my day. Actually it was noon. Things came together nicely though and it was a fairly productive day.
Built two more flower beds, one slap full of Portucala, the other mixed. Put out some Tiki torches that Kay picked up. Hauled a mess of soil …….. IN A WHEEL BARROW for a change (I’ve been hauling via bucket this whole time!). Got some propagation cuttings set in and ready for nature to take hold. Put out some more bird feeders, and one squirrel feeder. Finished off the Geranium bed. Laid out another walk way through the garden. Started another large bed. Along with quite a bit more.
Got to go check out the Volvo………….. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET. It’s an 85 244 in PRIME (cherry) condition! It’s blue with blue interior, fully optioned and perfectly straight………. The paint’s even perfect! I’ve got to wait a few more days before I’ll know if it’s mine or not, she’s sold every single Volvo they’ve gotten in over the past five years to me, and she wants to wait a week to see if anyone will double my offer (she knows they won’t, but it’ll look good on her paperwork). This one I want for myself.
Did my plant and supply shopping. Bought ten more Geraniums, one hundred forty five various Portulacas, four Don Juan roses, one miniature rose, two Columbines, two Southern Blues, two “Ice Plants”, twelve various Verbenas, and several other varied plants.
Bought myself a cheapie wheel barrow………. SHEESH it’s a ton and a half easier on me now.
When I got back in, I headed down to the campground to give my Father some fern and to help get some things done for the holiday hassle. While I was there, I repaired some bad wiring on one of the renter’s boat motor (I’ll have to completely rewire it later, but the repair will get him through the holiday)….. I’ve said it for years and I’ll keep saying it, Mercury outboard motors are status symbols, not the realist’s choice!!!! If you like fried wiring, cooked water jackets, poor cooling, finicky tuning, short lived tilt/trim and general headaches, then by all means, buy yourself a Mercury! Otherwise, find yourself a 1995 or older Evenrude (newer is fine too, but then your getting into higher tech and more to tear up). Alternatively, the Yamahas, Hondas and other Asian brands have all proved to be reliable as well………. If you have that kind of cash.
Rode around on my Daughter’s scooter (miniature Harley clone) for a good while and generally goofed off for a couple hours. Got my jon boat ready to get wet on the bottom. Then I headed home and hit the gardening.
I sat for an hour in my outdoor lounge chair and watched the birds. I actually watched Kay’s first Elephant Ear unfurl.
Tomorrow, we’re going to draw up a ’map’ of the garden and it’s various beds, so we can keep track of what each plant is (so many varieties of the same genus and it would be nice to know what to ask for when we decide to get more of the same for another bed or whatever). I’ve got to drill some holes in a whiskey barrel (long story), finish up the large (read huge) bed that we started today, put up some more bird feeders, plant fifty to seventy five more Portulacas, Plant the Verbenas and several other plants. Then I’ve got some more welding to get done (most for the garden again). Sometime over the weekend, I’ve GOT to get my table and benches finished for company we’ll be having in a couple weeks. We want to try and layout the rest of the beds planned for this year with some play sand. After all that, we’ll eat some lunch and do the things we came up with while doing all that. LOL ……………………………….... We’ll most likely do more plant shopping as well.
